Cannabis vs Addictive Pharmaceuticals
Canada will soon legalize Cannabis next year April 20, 2017 to curb drug addictions and drug cartels, and assist Canadians with natural alternative healing for various chronic diseases through the medical benefits of cannabis.
Cannabis is non-addictive and without side-effects because it is a herbal medicine. As an acupuncture detox specialist and certified cannabis specialist, most drug dependents can be rehabilitated and chronic diseases treated effectively through the use of medical cannabis, herbs, nutrition, acupuncture, exercise, Qigong and counselling.
According to Van Isle Medical Marijuana, "One of the major benefits of cannabis over pharmaceuticals is that it is not as addictive as most pain and anti-convulsive medication are. Many people cannot handle the very powerful man-made drugs that are generally prescribed for chronic conditions, like fentanyl, oxycontins, morphine and anti-convulsive medication. The side effects of these strong drugs are also cause for concern.
"Synthetic drugs are very expensive, and with our over-burdened health system, cannabis is potentially healing to our pocket-books as well as our bodies. Opiate abuse and addiction is one of the largest problems facing our youth and it doesn't help to have these prescription drugs an unquestioned component of our health system, while a natural and affordable alternative is available.
"With cannabis, people are often able to get off pharmaceuticals all together, or to substantially reduce the amounts they need. Smoking cannabis is the most unhealthy manner of ingestion but there are plenty of healthy alternatives these days such as vaporizers.
"In an eight year study comparing the number of deaths from marijuana use to seventeen FDA approved drugs conducted from January 1st, 1997 to June 30, 2005, showed zero direct deaths from marijuana and 11,687 from the seventeen FDA approved drugs. Twelve of these seventeen drugs were ones that are often prescribed in place of medical marijuana. The full study and the results including details of the drugs compared can be found here."
Cannabis has been found valuable in the treatment of many illnesses and conditions throughout history. Here are just a few of the benefits patients experience from cannabis today.
Canadian law describes a state of disease for which medical cannabis (marijuana) can be prescribed that applies to a lot of symptoms that are common to many different conditions.
This category is comprised of any symptoms treated within the context of providing compassionate end-of-life care; or the symptoms associated with the specified medical conditions listed in the schedule to the Regulations, namely:
This category is for applicants who have debilitating symptom(s) of medical condition(s), other than those described in Category 1.
Under Category 2, persons with debilitating symptoms can apply to obtain an Authorization to Possess dried marijuana for medical purposes, if a specialist confirms the diagnosis and that conventional treatments have failed or judged inappropriate to relieve symptoms of the medical condition. While an assessment of the applicants case by a specialist is required, the treating physician, whether or not a specialist, can sign the medical declaration.

In 2004, however, Dr. Ethan Russo proposed the idea of clinical endocannabinoid deficiency (CECD) in a study published in Neuro endocrinology letters. He suggested that deficient cannabinoid levels may be the underlying cause of numerous conditions alleviated by cannabis. Symptoms of CECD are pain, inflammation, digestive issues and anxiety and/or depression. A lifestyle of unhealthy diet, infrequent exercise, poor sleep, and lack of stress management contributes to endocannabinoid deficiency. Holistic treatment success is often attributed to activation and balancing of the body's cannabinoid receptors through cannabis, acupuncture and Qigong.

Cannabis has a long history in TCM. Cannabis is one of the 50 "fundamental" herbs of TCM, and is prescribed to treat diverse symptoms. Cannabis, called má, means "hemp; Cannabis; numbness" in Chinese, and was used by the Emperor Shen Nung, who was a pharmacologist.
